Why is Oral Hygiene so important?

Educating you on your health is an import part of our job. Maintaining oral hygeine can also play a significant role in your overall health. Recent research has linked periodontal disease as a risk factor for ailments including diabetes, premature/low-birth weight babies, heart disease and a number of other systemic diseases.

Periodontal disease and decay are both caused by bacterial plaque, a colorless film that sticks to your teeth at the gum line. Plaque constantly forms on your teeth. With thorough daily brushing and flossing you can remove these germs and help prevent periodontal disease. Many of the foods and drinks that we associate with a modern diet, including wine, some fruits, orange juice and salad dressing contain acids that can temporarily soften tooth enamel making it vulnerable to acid wear.
